Myles Kennedy’s show at the Varsity Theater in Minneapolis on January 18, 2025, was an amazing night that highlighted his talent and skill as both a musician and performer. Known for his powerful vocals in Alter Bridge and his work with Slash, Kennedy’s solo music brings something special to his career, and this concert was a great example of that.
The night started with Sons of Silver, a Los Angeles-based rock band that warmed up the crowd with their strong rhythm and catchy melodies. The band features ex-members of Pearl Jam, Candlebox, and Skillet. They were followed by Tim Montana, whose mix of bluesy hard rock brought a lot of energy to the stage. Tim is a true rebel, and I highly recommend you watch his show if you haven’t yet.
When Kennedy came on, the crowd cheered. His setlist was a nice mix of songs from each of his three solo albums and a couple of extra surprises. Myles spent some time doing a couple of acoustic songs, including “Mars Hotel,” a Mayfield Four song, and a simple yet beautiful rendition of “Haunted By Design.” The highlight of the night was the extended solo during “Behind the Veil.” It’s one of my favorite songs, and Myles got lost in the moment and jammed it for over ten minutes!
The Varsity Theater, a venue that only holds around 1000, was perfect for Kennedy’s voice, with every note coming through clear and strong. The small, intimate venue made it easy for him to connect with the crowd, and you could feel the mutual appreciation for the music. His guitar playing was just as impressive as his singing—technical but full of emotion. He also talked to the audience, shared stories, and expressed his thanks for everyone coming out on a night when the Minnesota weather was well below zero. You can tell that Myles truly values his fans.
I’ve been listening to Myle’s music for over twenty years and have enjoyed every avenue he’s traveled. Alter Bridge fans know that he’s amazing at guitar, but if you haven’t seen him perform his solo stuff, you can’t appreciate just how amazing this man is. He’s talented, humble, and a lot of fun. I highly recommend catching him on this tour!
