BUCKCHERRY “Roar Like Thunder” (Album Review)

Buckcherry’s Roar Like Thunder is straight-up rock ‘n’ roll. No gimmicks, no trying to be something they’re not—just a band doing what they’ve always done best. This is their 11th album, and you can tell they’re still having a blast making music. It’s loud, it’s fun, and it hits that sweet spot for people who grew up loving real talent. “Roar Like Thunder” releases June 13, through Round Hill Records.

They brought back producer Marti Frederiksen (who worked on the band’s 4th album, “Black Butterfly”), and the chemistry is still there. The songs feel tight and well put together without being overproduced. You can feel the energy; these songs are ready to be played live.

The two singles released so far are the title track, “Roar Like Thunder,” and “Come On.” In my opinion, not every song is a home run, but even the ones that don’t stand out still have heart. I appreciate that Buckcherry has always been a band that unapologetically delivers solid rock n roll albums.

My favorite track, “Let It Burn,” is actually the last one on the album. It’s got that grit that Buckcherry nails when they’re at their best. Think “Lit Up” or “Crazy Bitch.” It’s fast-paced and a little chaotic, and it just grooves in a way that makes you punch something. Another favorite of mine is “When the Sun Goes Down.” It’s a gritty song that makes you want to party- a Buckcherry hit through and through.

Roar Like Thunder isn’t about reinventing the band, trying to impress the next generation, or chasing trends. It’s for people who appreciate a little rebellion by speeding down the interstate with the volume cranked to eleven. If you’ve stuck with Buckcherry over the years, this one’s going to feel like an old friend showing up with a six-pack and some good stories. It’s loud, it’s real, and it’s worth your time.
