Steel Panther: May 16, 2024 @ Tannahills Music Hall in Fort Worth, TX

California’s Steel Panther has been prowling and touring across North America supporting their latest release, 2023’s On the Prowl.

Through 2024, the band has completed two legs for On the Prowl, January / February and April / May. The band wrapped the second leg of their North American tour with five dates in Texas. As anticipated there were stops in Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin and San Antonio.

For the hard core DFW Steel Panther fans, they received a double dose of the band. They played Dallas on May 15 for a hump day presentation and Fort Worth, just 40-minutes west the following night.

The night Steel Panther rolled into Tannahill Music Complex just happened to be in the midst of events for the PBR Finals Week in DFW. Plenty of bull riding was just a brief walk north of the venue.

Fellow California residents Stitched Up Heart supporting their 2023 To the Wolves album served as openers.

The band presenting a solid, aggressive set of aggressive, alternative and metal quickly won approval from the crowd. Surprisingly, there was a healthy showing of Stitched Up Heart fans and maybe a few Steel Panther converts as well.

Battle jackets, 80’s metal shirts and even bright neon green, leopard print spandex were present for the night.

Steel Panther wasted no time delivering their brand of high energy, slippery and sweaty spandex metal. The band takes the audience back to a time when music presentations were bright and flamboyant. The only difference, it’s a top notch, tight ride guided by frontman Michael Starr. Fans can expect humorous songs such as “Weenie Ride,” “17 Girls in a Row” and “Gloryhole.”

These titles may be crude and comedic but it’s all in fun while proudly flying the heavy metal flag. That’s what makes a Steel Panther show enjoyable.

On a more serious note though, the musicianship for the band as a whole is solid, just watch guitarist Satchel.

As with some bands over the years, the Steel Panther line up has remained consistent over the years. The most recent change being bassist Spyder in 2022. Prior to that, drummer Stix Zandinia jumped aboard the Steel Panther express in 2003.

Those who are easily offended should just stay home whereas others should just enjoy the ride.

The band takes their time warp presentation over the pond for the European festival season. Steel Panther will return to the states for a run of late summer / early fall dates.
