It was another beautiful warm spring evening in SLC, Utah with a slight sprinkle of rain in the air. I love that smell of fresh spring rain. The date is Tuesday May 7, 2019 and the setting is Metro Music Hall @ 615 W 100 S in Salt Lake City Utah. My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult are about to take stage and I can feel the night is going to be one to remember. I had already interviewed Groovie Mann from the band earlier in the night and was excited for what was coming. You can hear that interview Here.
My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult is out supporting their latest album released in February 2019, “In The House Of Strange Affairs.” TKK is an American electronic/industrial rock band based out of Chicago, Illinois. At the core of the group are Groovie Mann and Buzz McCoy with various artists appearing on multiple tours and albums. Starting their first EP in 1987 they have become the pioneers of the industrial sound. Although their sound has evolved through multiple sub-genres throughout the years, their music has always had that signature “TKK” sound.
Thrill Kill Kult has never disappointed since their birthing in the late 1980’s. From appearing in the movie, “The Crow” with Brandon Lee in 1994 to pumping out albums to this very day – this is a band that feeds off their audience and music and brings you the best entertainment possible. Tonight was no exception. The heavy bass and the heart pounding beats really make this group who they are. I am not personally much of a dancer but the beats pounding out of the speakers were so enticing, I found myself grooving along to them.
The show met all my expectations. They started off with the song, “Strange Affairs.” This song is the cornerstone of the album and instantly gets you into the mood for what is to come. Then they instantly go into, “Neon Diva.” This song displays the bands level of showmanship. The years of experience they have under their belt with live performances are evident and Groovie Mann puts you into some kind of psychedelic trance with his unique, catchy vocals and mesmerizing dance moves.
The concert continuesd with great tunes such as, “Glamour Is a Rocky Road” and “Forbidden Saints” which is my personal favorite song from their new record. The production quality in the live sound is so great I thought at times I was listening to the actual recording. These are true professionals on stage and in the studio and their music grabs me in such a way that I can’t stop listening. They ended the show with, “After The Flesh” and what a perfect song to end it with. Whether you’re a fan or not you may remember this song from the movie, “The Crow.”
Overall the entire concert was well worth the price of admission. Their hard hitting bass and beats really mesh well with Groovie’s lyrics and vocal style. If you get the chance to see My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult I highly recommend doing so. This is a legendary industrial act and I promise… you will get the show of a lifetime.
