CRIMSON MOON was forged more than two decades ago in the US as the magickal solo black metal project of Scorpios Androctonus before relocating to Germany in 1998 and evolving into a full band of menacing distinctiveness. The band’s newest set of mystical hymns is expertly built from punchy second-wave black metal riffs, cathedral-sized hooks, cosmic synthscapes, organ adornments, and ritualistic choral incantations that are as catchy as they are cryptic. Driven forward by sterling session drum work from Blastum (Aosoth, Antaeus) and a bass-heavy Hybreed Studios production which achieves the perfect dynamism between power and ambience, obscure themes are illuminated in a devilish attack of bludgeoning and focused song writing. Mors Vincit Omnia features guest appearances by Proscriptor (Absu), Lord Angelslayer (Archgoat), Ixithra (Demoncy), and Phaesphoros (Kawir) who in addition to mixing the record also performs wooden recorder and artwork by Daniele Valeriani (Dark Funeral, Dissection, Archeron). Written under the influence of the dead of winter, the new album pays homage to the Angel Of Death. Fans of Cradle Of Filth, Ancient, Dissection, and Nightbringer pay heed.
“Consisting of eight tracks of epic occult grandeur, Mors Vincit Omnia is constructed from violent riffage, ritualistic choral incantations, and cosmic synthesizer soundscapes with the goal of paying homage to the arch-demon Azrael.” — Invisible Oranges
“Whether it’s a faster, propulsive cut like ‘Upon the Pale Horse’ or a medium-paced stand-out like ‘Parcae – Trinity of Fates,’ with its hints of early Agalloch’s mournfulness, CRIMSON MOON demonstrate how masterful atmospheres can elevate otherwise tired black metal idioms. With a career stretching over two decades, two continents, and numerous collaborations, CRIMSON MOON‘s mastermind Scorpios Androctonus has crafted his personal pièce de résistance.” — Pop Matters
“…another solid black metal album from CRIMSON MOON… overall it is among the better albums in the genre this year and highly recommended above all for its unwavering atmosphere.” — Metal Trenches
“Mors Vincit Omnia carries the spirit of the second wave and the obscurity of the dungeons and the fires enlightening the dark corridors the occult underworld.” — Blessed Altar”…listening to this song is like stepping into a blizzard of razors.” – Cvlt Nation on “Mors Vincit Omnia”
“…fans of the group will revel in the eight new hymns of unhallowed bleakness in honor of the Angel of Death.” — Indy Metal Vault
“Essential listening for any acolyte of the blackened ways.” – Wonderbox Metal”…dramatic and occult.” – Ave Noctum”A potent listen through and through, this will stand as one of the years premier black metal offerings.” – Two Guys Metal Reviews
“The album pays tribute to Azrael. A sonic realization of the Angel of Death, Destruction and Renewal is bound to be spooky and morbid. The German band (by way of America) conjures the Reaper with mid-pace, second-wave string work, ritualistic chorus lines and gothic organs.” — Heavy Music HQ
“…a record that stands out from the masses in peculiarity, quality, ambience and plausibility and it is more than most in this business will ever achieve.” — Metal Wanderlust
“…their mystical and hypnotic style of occult-steeped black metal continues to conjure up only the most sinister of lucid visions.” – Via Omega
