PARADISE SLAVES: “With Hell In His Eyes” (Album Review)

If you’re in your late 30s or 40s and still love heavy music with real emotion behind it, With Hell In His Eyes might be just what you need. Paradise Slaves is a new band, but the guys in it are seasoned in the metal community—Brock Lindow (36 Crazyfists), Jon Kita and Brad Horion (Diecast), Ryan Manning (Blitzkid, Pentagram), and Tyler Stroetzel all bring years of experience. You can hear it in every track.

The single, “Dreamers,” starts with a solid riff and pulls you in. The chorus feels honest, like it was written by someone who’s actually lived through some stuff. That’s a theme throughout the record. These songs come from real life, not just a writing session pumping out top 40 hits. Check out the official music video below and enjoy the breakdown!!

“A Fever To Defeat” deals with the mess of COVID. It doesn’t preach or complain, it just captures the exhaustion and frustration a lot of us felt. The title track,“With Hell In His Eyes,” is one of my favorite tracks—tough and vulnerable at the same time. It’s got killer riffs and a memorable chorus.

The band even takes a swing at Soul Asylum’s “Somebody to Shove,” and it works. It’s definitely heavier and rougher around the edges than the original, but still has the feel of capturing Soul Asylum’s classic sound. It feels like a real tribute. The song “Swim North” with Trevor Phipps (Unearth) adds some extra weight, but it fits in naturally. Nothing on this album feels like it’s trying too hard. It’s just a bunch of guys who clearly love making great music.

This record doesn’t reinvent anything, and I think that’s the point. It’s straight-up heavy rock/metal made by grown men who’ve been through decades of real-life situations. If you miss the days when bands had skill and passion and didn’t need auto-tune or TikTok to prove it, give this record a spin. It’s solid, honest, and worth your time.
