GYPSY CHIEF GOLIATH: Pop Matters Premieres “Low Cost Of Living High” By Ontario Stoner Metal Crew; Masters Of Space And TimeNears Release ViaKozmik Artifactz
Ontario stoner metal juggernaut GYPSY CHIEF GOLIATH proudly unleashes “Low Cost Of Living High,” the new single from their impending fourth album, Masters Of Space And Time. The track makes its public debut through a premiere at Pop Matters as the new record rumbles towards is February release, the band’s first album for German label Kozmik Artifactz.
Surging with forty-two minutes of GYPSY CHIEF GOLIATH‘s dependably thundering riffs and deep grooves, Masters Of Space And Time is quite different from previous work as the band continues to focus on writing more diverse material, avoiding simple pigeonholing of their sound and opting for a much more dynamic story-telling roller coaster style. The album was recorded at Empire Recording Studios in Windsor, Ontario, co-produced by Adam Michalczuk, Nick Kinnish, and Al Yeti Bones, engineered by Adam Michalczuk, mixed by Nick Kinnish, with additional tracking by Bones. The tracks were mastered by Phil Demetro at Lacquer Channel and the album completed with cover art by Will De Villers.

Founding member Al Yeti Bones offers, “The song ‘Low Cost Of Living High’ was written very quickly. Musically, it is probably among the more ’70s classic, progressive rock type songs we have in terms of style. Definitely written with bands like Boston, Steely Dan, Poco, and of course Thin Lizzy in mind, it’s a great example of how diverse and interesting the album truly is… The ‘Low Cost Of Living High’ is seriously all about the struggle. The chase, and then ultimately, the parallel payoff that came to us in a different form. It’s all we could have asked for!”
Pop Matters issues with the “Low Cost Of Living High” premiere, “If you already imagine the detuned guitars, sludgy chord progressions, and lyrics that embrace the fantastical and the absurd, grab the needle and pull it off the mental record. It’s not that the tune completely lacks stoner tropes but rather that the Canadian cats nicely subvert expectations with guitar harmonies and musical passages that lean toward classic rock.”

GYPSY CHIEF GOLIATH was originally established in 2009 by Al Yeti Bones, formerly of The Mighty Nimbus, Georgian Skull, and Mister Bones. The five-piece sonic wrecking crew – Bones, as well as Adam Saitti, Darren Brush, Dustin Black, John Serio, and Mark Calcott – has been building quite the name for themselves in the last decade, not just in Canada, but globally throughout the underground music scene. The band can be best described as a blend of ’70s classic rock/heavy metal with elements of ’90s stoner rock and grunge, as displayed on their prior three LPs released through the likes of Black Vulture Records and Pitch Black Records.
