What the media has said about ‘The Great Misdirect’:

“‘The Great Misdirect’ only has six songs, but each is a monster, a brutal amalgam of screamo, prog, hardcore and free-floating excess.” – Revolver Magazine, on 20 Great Albums Turning 10 in 2019

“As its title suggests, 2009’s ‘The Great Misdirect’ found Between the Buried and Me willfully daring their fans to ride along or fuck off while they broke down even more boundaries for progressive metalcore.” – Loudwire, on 15 Best Metal Albums of 2009

“’The Great Misdirect’ is easily one of the best albums of the year and another sign that Between The Buried And Me are the new leaders of progressive metal.” – Metal Underground, 2009

Firmly established as progressive music’s most unpredictable outlier since its formation in 2000, Between The Buried And Mereleased 2007’s watershed Colors followed by The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues EP in 2011 and The Parallax II: Future Sequence a year later. 2015 saw Coma Ecliptic elevate them to new heights yet again. Not only did it bow at #12 on the Billboard Top 200 (a career high for the band), but it also garnered widespread acclaim from Noisey, Revolver, Alternative Press, and The Guardian who welcomed the album with a rare perfect score. In between, they launched countless sold out headline tours and support runs with the likes of Mastodon. In 2017 they released their 8th studio offering, the phenomenal double concept album Automata & Automata II which saw yet more critical acclaim with MetalSucks stating “Musically, BTBAM are already in outer space while every other metal band remains stuck on earth — and yet Automata finds the band somehow continuing to push themselves in new territory”, Loudwire claiming “Automata certainly meets the towering standards BTBAM have set for the past 16 years” and The Prog Report declaring Automata I & II “a very well done feather in BTBAM’s prog concept album cap”.
