Trashy Annie at Redwood Bar & Grill – Los Angeles – 5/7/2024

The Redwood Bar & Grill is a dark hole in the wall bar adjacent to downtown L.A. A true rock n’ roll bar and the perfect ambiance for a Tuesday night rock show in early May. Road savvy rock veterans Trashy Annie also brought a couple of openers along for the ride, Blvd of Eyes and Unsound Sunday.

The night started with Unsound Sunday an indie alternative band from San Bernardino. This band has a very interesting and unique sound. Their style contains elements reminiscent of bands like Loathe and the Deftones. The lead singer’s soulful yet haunting voice paired with the band’s heavy riffs and ambient elements created a captivating performance. They definitely left an impression on the audience and set the tone for the rest of the night.

Next up Blvd of Eyes followed with a high energy rock set. The band features Chloe Trujillo wife of Robert Trujillo. The music has a very hard groove oriented sound with elements of nu-metal. Chloe brings a unique vocal style to the table and provides an edge that differentiates their sound from similar acts.

Trashy Annie finally hit the stage around 10:30pm with her band, bringing the type of raw rock n’ roll vibes that fans have come to expect. The band has been touring and is clearly well rehearsed and in top form. Their comfort on stage and technical proficiency shined throughout the night. The setlist consisted of songs from their latest album “Sticks and Stones” as well as some covers. Annie’s carefree yet gritty vocals and high fashion really give the music a fun, party vibe.

But the band’s original music wasn’t the only highlight of the night, Later on in their set Annie took a break from singing and the band did a cover of one of my favorite Queens of the Stone Age tracks “Go With the Flow.” The crowd went wild and the song also fit seamlessly into their set.

The Redwood Bar & Grill provided the perfect intimate setting for this rock show. The dim lighting, red walls, and vintage decor added to the ambience of the music. It truly feels like a hidden gem near downtown L.A., with its dive bar feel and welcoming atmosphere. The absolute perfect setting for a gritty rock show.

Trashy Annie is on tour now and if you have the chance to catch them live, I highly recommend it. Not only will you be treated to some killer rock music, maybe they’ll surprise you with a cover of one of your favorite songs too.
